2018 Gyeonggi Korean Orchestra International Musical Work Contest

1. Qualifications
A. Anyone who is interested in the composition of gugak (Korean classical music) orchestral music can apply, regardless of age or nationality.
B. The composer must pair with a collaborating performer to apply (the composer may participate as conductor or co-performer).
 

2. Overview of the Contest
A. Theme: Open
- The attached gugak themes may be utilized. Please check the sound source attached (gugak.ggac.or.kr).
B. Running Time: 12-15 minutes
C. Previous Performance: The submitted piece must not have been performed on stage previously.
D. Orchestration: The submitted piece should be a gugak orchestral concerto based on the orchestration of Gyeonggi Korean Orchestra
(to be performed in collaboration with any genre of choice, including instrumental music, vocal music, and performance).
 

3. Required Documents (Korean or English, submitted via email only)
※ Please download the forms and orchestration sample from Gyeonggi Korean Orchestra website (gugak.ggac.or.kr).

A. Entry Form
B. Agreement to the Collection and Use of Personal Information
C. Description of the submitted piece
D. The full score and instrument scores of the submitted piece (created in accordance with the criteria of Gyeonggi Korean Orchestra)
E. MIDI sound source of the submitted score (.mp3)
 

4. Notes Prior to Application
A. The submitted piece should not have been performed on stage or awarded previously.
B. Only one piece may be submitted per person.
C. The right to perform the pieces awarded through the contest belongs to the organizer of the contest for 3 years from the date of the announcement of the awarded pieces.
D. All civil and criminal liability incurred due to imitation or plagiarism shall be held by the applicant. If any part of the submitted information is proved to be false,
the acceptance of the piece shall be cancelled.
 

5. Application Period and Method
A. Period: April 1 (Mon.) - July 20 (Fri.), 2018 (Only applications submitted no later than on the last day Korean local time will be accepted.)
B. Method: Email submission only / Gyeonggi Arts Center (k-orchestra@ggac.or.kr)

6. Deliberation and Announcement of the Awarded Pieces
A. Deliberation to be conducted by 5 judges selected from within and outside the Orchestra
B. The awarded pieces will be announced via Gyeonggi Arts Center's website and the winners will be individually notified on August 17 (Fri.), 2018.
 

7. Benefits for the Winners
A. Cash prize of USD 5,500 per awarded piece (tax included) / Up to 5 pieces to be selected
 - The cash prize includes the fees for the use of the piece and the collaborating performer.
 - The composer and collaborating performer may divide the cash prize at their discretion.
B. Round-trip plane tickets for the composer and collaborating performer of the awarded piece to take part in the concert
 - Two tickets per awardee for those living abroad only
 - Period for practice, rehearsal, and performance: November 7 (Wed.) - November 17 (Sat.), 2018
C. Concert held to perform the awarded pieces

A. Title: Concert for the 2018 K-Orchestra Challenge - Gyeonggi Korean Orchestra International Musical Work Contest
B. Date: November 17 (Sat.), 2018
C. Venue: Concert Hall at Seongnam Arts Center
